Subwoofer installation in 156

Postby aunheng » Sun Apr 18, 2010 10:31 am

I am looking to install a subwoofer in my 156. But need to minimize boot space loss. Anyone have photos of the best place to install the sub without affecting access to spare tyre compartment and center arm rest hole?

i've got my 8inch Bazooka installed in the boot and it's attached to the backboard of the back seat of the car. minimises loss of boot space. the only thing i dont quite like abt it is that the passengers at the back will feel the 'beat' from the sub. but the 156 doesnt have a big boot for a sedan.

not sure abt the active subs being talked abt here. dunno if they can be fitted under the front seats.

there are air con vents under the front seats. for the passenger side, there's also a wire (think it's the ABS wire). dont think you can or should fit anything under the passenger front seat.

cheers

I'm also looking at getting a fuller sound from the stock system. The ideal would be to get an amp to power the existing speakers and adding a 12" sub in the boot, but I would lose most of the boot space and I don't want the installers stripping down the interior to wire up all the equipment.

The stock setup sounds decent enough in the midrange and treble but it's seriously lacking bass. I was thinking of getting an active subwoofer e.g. MBQ, Kenwood, Pioneer, Blaupunkt that can be stuffed under the driver's seat with minimal cutting and splicing. They all have tiny drivers of 8" or less, not powerful enough for rattling windows but I hope they're good enough to add some kick to complement the midrange. Anyone with experience using these on hatchback Alfas like the 145/146/147? And any recommendations on good shops to buy and install from?

the sub box is removable, just unplug it when you need the space, or else boom boom you go

That sub box takes up half my boot space! :) No way to put fish and veggies in there... that's why I'm more keen on the active sub.

Screw the boot space man .. if u wan sound quality, then you have to loose boot space.. I D.I.Y my own according to Rockford design and now I can only put like 4 laptop bag worth of space only. The box is freaking huge but its for 2x 10" subs. You might need to spend some money to get it custom made if u don't want to loose much boot space but sound it not a guarantee.

What you can do it to try what simonting is suggesting. Test out simonting's mom estima for some feel of the active sub.
